Top LinkedIn tips – ordering current roles, selective tweet updates and the CardMunch ap

I have a secret, un-requited passion for LinkedIn – there I have said it! But I also know I do not give it the love it probably deserves!

There have been a couple of niggles that I have had for ages, that although small, have always irritated me. Namely not being able to order my current roles, and, seeing connected twitter updates which are just not relevant to me with my LinkedIn hat on.

But I’ve found out recently these niggles need be no more – so I thought I’d share the love with you too!  Plus a new LinkedIn ap which I’d be interested to hear your views on

Ordering your LinkedIn current roles

Many of us running small businesses have more than one role we want to promote – it maybe a partnership (as in my case) or a non-executive director role, or some other equally important role. However, up until recently, the ordering of the roles have been due to the start date, which means it is not necessarily your main role that you are primarily associated with.

LinkedIn has happily changed that for us – go to edit your profile and scroll down to where you see your different roles described under “Experience”. As you place your cursor over a current role, you will see a box appear around it and it will turn blue. Left click your mouse and drag the role into the position you would like it to be in … and hey presto. You have the ordering you want! Marvellous!

You can find out more about ordering in your LinkedIn profile here.

Screengrab showing LinkedIn selective twitter settingsSelective tweets appearing on LinkedIn

You may already realise that you can set LinkedIn so that your tweets automatically populate LinkedIn updates. But did you know that the default has changed so your tweets can only appear if you add a #in or #li to your tweet?

For me this is great news, as I never understood why I would want all my tweets showing in LinkedIn, but there are definitely some that I would want to show – like a tweet to this blog post!

The CardMunch iPhone ap

I love my iPhone, and anything that makes life easier for me is good! If you are like me and do a fair bit of networking then you will collect zillions of business cards along the way. This LinkedIn ap claims to be able to store and order all your business cards for you  – and where possible connect through to LinkedIn to show a load more information on your contact, with the ability to connect etc. All by taking a photo of a card.

This is not something I have worked with yet, but I intend to and I am very interested as to how others are using it and whether it works for you?

The following link will take you to a video and blog post which explains a lot more about how it works.

So there you have it – have you found these tips useful?
Do you use CardMunch?
Would be really interested in hearing your comments.

Happy LinkedIn-ing!
